In 1948, Jean-Joffre and David Armand Gourd, sons of David Gourd, a pioneer of Quebec’s North West, found Radio Nord along with Roger Charboneau and Jean Monette. Thus, the adventure begins with three small local radio stations in Abitibi Témiscamingue ; CKRN, CHAD, and CKVD. |

1952, CKLS, a La Sarre based radio station, is added to the Radio Nord Portfolio. The Gourd brothers overcome obstacles and meet the challenges thay are presented with, developing a ‘know how and let know’ approach. |

The 50’s would introduce the golden age of television. The Gourd brothers, realizing the amazing potential of the fascinating new media posit Radio Nord to enter the emerging market. In 1957 on Christmas day, the population of Abitibi Témiscamingue are presented with the first images of CKRN-TV, alunched by Radio Nord based in Rouyn. Affiliated with Radio Canada in Montreal and the CBC in Toronto, the stations programming is bilingual. |

The 70’s are time of thriving success for CKRN-TV, allowing the group to invests in resources to improve their production of local shows. |

1976, the year of the Montreal Olympics. Radio Nord acquires CHOT-TV in Outaouais. The following year, 1977, CFEM-TV in Abitibi Temiscaminue and CHLM-FM in Rouyn Nornanda are also added to the group’s media portfolio. |

In 1981, RNC MEDIA obtains two new television licenses: CFGS TV in Hull Ottawa and CFVS-TV in Val d’Or as well ad a re-transmitter CFVS TV-1 in Rouyn-Noranda. The year also marks the launch of CHOA FM in Rouyn-Noranda. |

In 1989, CJLA-FM in Lachute and CHPR-FM in Hawksebury are integrated into the Radio Nord portfolio, giving the group a reach into the Laurentians as well as Eastern Ontario. |

1996, Jean-Yves Gourd takes over from his father, Jean-Joffre, as chief shareholder and controler of Radio Nord.
That same year, Pierre R. Brosseau, a lawyer by trade, joins Radio Nord. He would quickly ascend to the rank of both President and CEO. |

In 1998, Radio Nord Commnication celebrates its 50 years at the service of Quebec’s regions. Revindicating the enterprises original mission statement: to be at the service of the community and its values. The anniversary also coincides with the move of the Radio Nord head office to the 15th story of Place Ville Marie, the heart of Montreal’s financial district. The move, becomes symbolic of an enterprise with its sight set on growth and penetration in the larger urban markets of Quebec, communicating and serving a wider array of Quebecois communities and the society as a whole. |

In 2003, RNC MEDIA launches its first specialized radio station ; Couleur FM in Gatineau, a Classical and Jazz format. |

2004, RNC MEDIA acquires Groupe Antenne 6 in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, a cluster of six radio stations covering the region.
Pierre R. Brosseau is named Chairman of the Board adn CEO of Radio Nord Communiaction.
Raynald Briere joins the group in the Fall, becoming President and CEO. This new force would have an accelerating effect on the Radio Nord dynamism.
A few months later, in December 2004, Radio Nord launches its second specialized radio format Couleur Jazz 91,9FM Montreal. This marks an important milestone in the groups history as Couleur Jazz allows Radio Nord to penetrate the larges urban market in Quebec. |

The trend continued in 2005 as Radio Nord acquires CKNU-FM from Genex : initially based in Donnacona, the antenna successfully transfered to Quebec, establishing the groups presence in Quebec City, the Priovinces second larges urban market. |

At the begining of 2006, RNC MEDIA acquires Genex’s actif’s serving to the exploitation of CHOI Radio X the most popular station in the Quebec City market.
In April 2006, the company creates an entirely new radio format in launching TagRadio in Gatineau.
At the end of this same year, the CRTC approves the transfer of CHOI Radio X’s liscence from Genex to RNC MEDIA. |

Almost 60 years of history made Radio Nord into the player it has come to be. Today, the enterprise counts 16 radio stations and 5 television stations in the principal regions of Quebec.
Recent changes in the audiovisual landscape due to the convergeance of medias in the midst of a technological revolution are making for a new and exciting era for the media industry.
Many of the groups images have been modified and adjusted to suit the local populaitons they serve.
Today, our radio and televsion offer is innovative and diversified. To mark the dawn of this new chapter in the group’s history a new name and look has been tailored to the enterprises new reality : RNC MEDIA becomes RNC Media. Its slogan become « The Passion of Communication »
Fitting, given that it is this passion to communicate that drives RNC Media’s 320 employees to provide a quaity service to its radio and television audience evry day. |
